What's up with Fuu's name when it's translated?
(this is a slightly wordier version ^^)

There seems to be mass confusion on why the popular set of translated names are what they are. So I guess I should go over what is one of the most frustrating name change sets.... As you may have noted in FAQ part 2 (international name converter), the three main characters seem to have a key translation set (Luce, Marine, Anemone). This was actually the translation set provided by KODANSHA back in the days when they had an some weird thing called K-SHOP (which was something like their prototype for an online shopping site), where they had a Sailor Moon page and a RayEarth page. This page no longer exists.... if you remember the days of yore I am talking about the page that had the first 7 pages or so scantranslated. And on this page, they introduced the various characters and places the way they felt was good... and of all those names (like Cephiro was Zephyr... sound familiar, Indonesian folks? ^_^) the Magic Knights were, as I said, Luce, Marine, and Anemone. Luce. lucent, light-filled. "Hikaru" means "to shine". ok, fair enough. Marine. marine biology, marina, sea, ocean. "Umi" means "ocean", also fair enough.

Anemone. ANEMONE?! you ask. Well, I did look this up in a dictionary, and lo and behold, a common name for an anemone is a Windflower. The little flowers you see to your right are Anemone blanda, one of them anemones/windflowers. [It's rather pretty, I must say. =)] And so, because Fuu's attribute (as well as the direct translation of her name) is WIND, they decided to take a name off WINDflower and call her Anemone. This got garbled over the countries into Anais and Anne (among others).

As a side note, if Mixx had changed the names, it woulda been Blaze, Nautia, and Windi.... ^^;;;
