Hikaru and
Mokona by Lauren Nicolo The story opens with a princess asking for help. She asks the "Legendary Magic Knights" to "save this world". The area lights up, and we are now in Tokyo. It is the year 1993, and we focus on a group of junior-high school girls who are at the Tokyo Tower on a field trip. As girls gripe about their school's selection of a field trip site, we focus on Hikaru. A slender, athletic-looking, energetic girl with a long braid down her back, she is watching a house through binoculars, and notices a baby. As she watches the baby, time runs out on those "100 yen per 2 minutes" binoculars, and Hikaru panics to find money. A girl with shoulder-length curly hair and eyeglasses—an intelligent-looking girl, even—inserts money into the binocular, says that she has enjoyed watching Hikaru having fun, and walks away. Hikaru runs after this girl to thank her, and gets caught in another group of field-trippers. As Hikaru's classmates talk about the girl from the "brainy school"—the one that inserted money into the binoculars—and the pack of girls that Hikaru ran into—the girls that go to a "rich-kids" school—they notice a girl with long, straight hair. Hikaru notices her too, and their eyes meet. Suddenly, there is a flash of light, and the three girls from the three schools hear a plea for help...... and the girls sink below the floor of the Tokyo Tower. Clef by
Dark Yui-chan The three girls land on a creature resembling a giant flying fish, and they start to wonder where they are. They have no idea where this fantasmic world is. Meanwhile, a man, who looks like the villain of the series, taunts the princess: "So you have summoned the Legendary Magic Knights........ We will see if they can become the true Magic Knights and save you, Princess." The girls land on a patch of grass, and talk about where they could be. Hikaru had noticed the volcano, and the mountain that was floating in the sky—and concludes that this is not Tokyo. They decide that introductions are in order because they have to help each other find their way home. The shoulder-length haired girl is Fuu, and the girl with the long straight hair is Umi. As Fuu and Umi become bewildered that Hikaru is in their graduating class, a short man shows up and debriefs them of their purpose in this bizarre world—he tells them that they must become the Magic Knights and save Princess Emeraude, the center of this world named Cephiro, from the evil hands of Sol Zagato, and that they cannot go back to their world until they complete this mission. The short man explains that in Cephiro, the power of the will exceeds anything else, and that wishing for things strongly enough can get you anything; and Princess Emeraude was the Pillar of Cephiro that prayed for the well-being of the whole world. Alcione by Ashley/FuuMKR Zagato, in the meantime, decides to kill the girls off right then and there... and sends Alcione to do the evil deed. The short man dresses the girls in light armor, and gives them one magic group each. Hikaru obtains Fire, Umi obtains Water, and Fuu obtains Wind (being respective to their names which mean Light, Ocean, and Wind in Japanese). The man then proceeds to teach Hikaru her first spell when Alcione attacks the group. The little man, whose name is Clef, puts the girls on a griffon and sends them to the Forest of Silence, where they are to meet Presea and Mokona. Alcione summons wolves to "take care" of Clef, and chases after the girls. She attacks the griffon with her ice spells, but is defeated with Blazing Arrow (Honou no Ya), Hikaru's first spell. Meanwhile, Zagato tells Emeraude that he summons was a futile attempt and that the MK's will not make it to the castle. The girls land in a clearing of the forest, and notice a house. They knock, but hearing no anser, try the door—and find it unlocked. They enter the house, looking for signs of life. In the study, they hear a noise—when they get there, they are met by a fluffy rabbit (Mokona) and become trapped inside a cage. Presea enters, daydreaming about punishment she should torture Mokona with, when she realizes that there are 3 girls and no rabbit inside the cage. Umi mumbles that she was being unreasonable because the door was unlocked, and because of this comment Presea realizes that the girls inside the cage are THE magic knights. Presea lets them out of the cage, and lends them weapons. Hikaru takes a broad sword, Umi gets a rapier, and Fuu gets a bow and arrows. Ferio by Lin Ali The weapons disappear into their wristguards, but Presea explains that the weapons will come out of the guards whenever they Knights wished it to. Presea then describes what the girls must do—they must go to the Legendary Spring of Eterna and get the mystic ore Eskudo so she can make them their swords (the "key" to the Mashin). Presea sends the girls on their way with Mokona. As they defeat the monsters with their weapons in the forest (as the forest is the Forest of Silence, where all magic ceases to work), they bump into a guy.....
