What do you think?

To me, that question in general is over-simplified by everybody who's ever asked it. There's no yes or no to that until you look at what's the end and what's the means. In Zagato's instance, one person he loves against countless innocent lives and an entire world AND the wishes of that perticular person (Emeraude) does not justify the means. If I kill lots of ants to keep them from invading my house, the end would justify the means. Americans in secret operations all over the world killing innocent villagers for "world peace" even as you read this, no. Of course, it's not always that simple.

Not in this case.

I think Zagato wasn't thinking straight cause he was so much in love with Emeraude. He was letting his feelings mess with his thinking and everything else. So in a way, he wasn't a bad guy, but over all, I'd have to say he was.

Well, the question isn't just "was Zagato justified in protecting Emeraude's life despite the fact that this would result in Cephiro's death?"... The question the series actually asks is more of: "is it okay for the people of Cephiro to make one person carry the burden of everybody else's happiness by sacrificing herself?" .... I think it isn't fair.
